NBC Protection - Naval No 3 AFU

Our Number 3 AFUs are widely fitted in Royal Navy ships. During the last 25 years over 4000 units have been supplied.

To accomodate the airflow required in difference ships, units are fitted singly, in pairs, or in banks of four.

• Eash unit is bolted and sealed into the ship structure and has a maximum airflow rate of 996 m3/hr.
• The No. 3 AFU is designed to meet the shock standards of 40g up and 30g down in the vertical plane and 25g in the horizontal plane.
• Each No. 3 AFU consists of 3 filters: a. A Pre-Filter to remove coarse particulate matter down to 5 microns, including nuclear fallout. b. A HEPA filter, which removes fine particulate matter down to 0.3 microns, including bacteria. c. A Gas Filter, which removes chemical and radiac warfare agents in the form of gases or vapours by adsorption to the activated charcoal filling.
