NBC Protection

Collective Protection at sea and on land against Nuclear, Biological and Chemical agents

To maintain full operational capability while under a NBC attack a Collective Protection System (CPS) is required.

SEA SYSTEMS

At sea warships are increasingly likely to be subjected to attack by Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) agents.  In order to maintain full operational capability, a Collective Protection System (CPS) is required.  

A CPS comprises:

·         A gas tight citadel that encompasses all key compartments

·         Filtration units to supply decontaminated air

·         Air locks combined with decontamination compartments to allow entry and exit

·         A NBC detection system

Portsmouth Aviation Limited is a significant defence equipment design and manufacturing company founded in 1929 and we have over 20 years experience in the design and manufacture of NBC Air Filtration Units (AFUs). 

We have the experience and the expertise to:

·         Advise on the generation of specifications for ship NBC collective protection systems and to provide draft statements of work to assist end customer procurement action

·         Recommend the optimum type and arrangement of NBC AFUs for any vessel

·         Work with ship builders and ventilation system suppliers on the installation and setting to work of NBC AFUs in new build vessels

·         Design retrofit installations for ships already fitted with NBC AFUs so as to upgrade them to the latest NATO standard of radial filter installation

·         Design decontamination compartments for new vessels and work with ship builders on fitting out and setting to work

·         Provide freestanding decontamination and air lock units for vessels for retrofit

LAND SYSTEMS

There is an increasing risk that buildings, both military and commercial, could be subjected to NBC attack.  A CPS is as important to protect life and ensure continued operation in buildings as it is in warships.  Our NBC AFUs are as suited to the more benign environment of building protection as they are to warships. 

We can:

·         Recommend the optimum type and arrangement of NBC AFUs for any building.

·         Provide freestanding decontamination and air lock units.

·         Work with building contractors on the installation and setting to work of the system.

NBC Solutions

In order to offer as complete NBC solution for any situation PA have formed an agreement with Microgenix, who specialise in air sterilisation systems. Microgenix specialise in air sterilisation products and have recently supplied systems for the Type 45 destroyer programme. PA and Microgenix intend to pursue a number of opportunities in the future and also to further develop a range of products primarily for the European market.
